PCI, which stands for Payment Card Industry, is a council which sets standards for security within the payments industry. The Council was found in 2006 by 5 global payment brands (Visa Inc, MasterCard WorldWide, American Express, Discover Financial Services and JCB International), and has established the PCI DSS – Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard – as the technical requirements set for their data security compliance requirements.
